Aritist Spotlight-The MarXman

Marc was born in Jamaica Queens to Trinidadian parents. In high school he became a published writer, beating out thousands of young prodigies to win a page within The Anthology of Young Christian Writers. By now he had realized his talent, however it wasn't until his enrollment in Hunter College in 1999 that his passion was fully realized. On his first trip to the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe in the lower east side of Manhattan, Marc was floored by the outspoken display of dramatic poetry. He had never seen poetry displayed with such originality and skill. It was raw. It was unrefined purity. It was him.

Developing his own identity, the MarXman chose a stage name suitable for his persona and message. He then collaborated with his schoolmates to form The Cataclysm, a 5 man team of hip hop artists, poets, and producers. This group facilitated a series of open mic events in Hunter College and ran a successful weekly show in the South Bronx. After the first and only group album The Cataclysm Presents: The Movement, the gentlemen underwent an intense performance regiment. Approaching every city school in NYC to colleges and universities all over the tri-state area, theMarXman left his mark on each stage he stepped upon.

Young MarXman began to pursue solo ventures as did his partners, and soon began making a name for himself on the performance scene. He went on to pursue theatre, and was featured in the off-broadway gem, The Truth about Heaven in 2002. He was a Nuyorican Grand Slam Finalist for 3 years in a row, and performed with the notorious slam team when needed. He was the youngest poet featured on the first season of BET's Lyric Cafe, a nationally syndicated program displaying the hottest performers in select cities across the country. He used this momentum to rock Planet Holywood in NYC, The Apollo Theatre, The Bowery Poetry Club, The WaMu Theatre in Madison Square Garden, CBGB's, and dozens of other venues in many other states.

He is currently developing a new sound in a massive attempt to attain a new level of artistic expression. He has honed his writing skills to learn the rudiments of songwriting and arrangement. His first solo project, theNeXt : theMiXtape was released in Spring of 2010 fusing hip hop with smooth harmonies and gritty spoken word. He is an artist. He is a performer. He is theMarXman, and music is his NeXt target.

Clothing Spotlight-Nick Every

David L'Creme Jr Filed Under: Labels: ,
Nick Every is a New York based clothing company who gained its notoriety from the "Black Flag" tee which was featured in Fabolous video, "Throw It In The Bag". Nick Every is not just "another clothing line", this is a lifestyle brand dedicated to setting themselves apart from the multitudes of brands out. With fresh colors, graphics and subtle fits, Nick Every is definitely a brand to watch for in 2010 and beyond. I was able to speak to Darnell Gaskins, the creator and designer of Nick Every. Darnell did not attend any design school and creates all the design for the t-shirts by free hand. He is a sneakerhead determined to bring back the era of "killing an ouftit" with a pair of kicks and a tee to match. I was able to ask Darnell a few questions about Nick Every:

Occupation
Clothing designer

How long have you been designing clothing?
Designing tees for over 10 years

Where are you from?
Brooklyn

How did you come up with the name "Nick Every"
Brione Schneider was a club promoter and he went by "Nick Every" He got that name because before he went out to the club, he would watch Nick at Nite. He was tragically gunned down outside of a nightclub in 2008. In memory of Brione, we used the name and his image as the logo for Nick Every.

What does "Nick Every" bring to the fashion world?
Setting trends without following any

Favorite Sneaker?
Jordan 6's

How pairs of sneakers do you current own?
Well over 200 pairs

Currently listening to?
J.Cole, Wale, Cam'ron, Vado, Fab, and Drake
