FAM 4LYFE hails from Mt. Vernon, NY. No strangers to the game, the R&B and Hip-Hop Duo, A-Lova and Rocky “J” Johnson, combined to create a SupaGroup almost 10 years ago. FAM4LYFE represents a diverse, creative, multi-faceted sound that crosses all musical genres. The combination of Hip-Hop and R&B creates a sound that appeals to all audiences. These seasoned performers have been taking the scene by storm, making their presence known in showcases and concerts throughout New York City and along the east coast.
What is Fam4Lyfe?
FAM4LYFE is a diverse Hip-Hop/R&B SUPAGROUP…two brothers doing what we love to do -- MUSIC
Who are you musical inspirations?
A: I am a fan of a lot of the real soulful singers like Boyz2Men, Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, Babyface, and of course the late great Michael Jackson to name a few.
J: One of my inspirations is my pops.. When I was growing up I use to sit next to him and watch him compose music and hear him play the piano. That made me pick up a pen at 10 and start to write.
How did you get started?
We actually started separately on our own musical ventures, eventually started featuring on each other’s songs and the feedback we were getting about our chemistry and quality of music just proved the inevitable.
How did you meet?
We’re from the same city [Mt. Vernon, NY] so it was only a matter of time before we cross paths from all of the talent shows we both performed in.
What would you say is lacking in today's music?
A: Personally, I feel that passion is lacking. Meaning, some people “make music” because they think it’s cool or it will make them look cool. Today’s music lacks substance. Not all music, but a lot of it!
J: I think it’s lacking in consistency.. A lot of people are putting out lazy music just because they made one hot joint that blew up. They don’t care about it after that…they’re just riding the wave.
What are your goals for 2011?
A: To make an even bigger impact with our movement. It’s all about progression (P.C.P)
A: The launch of our debut album is also on the agenda, along with our feature in XXL Magazine, and the SOURCE online. Tons of visuals, of course, shows and our "getFAMiliar" Youtube series. A lot of exciting things!
J: Of course, keeping our buzz going , continue smashing these shows and to be known as one of the best duo's in music history.
How does your music differ from what currently out?
A: We don’t follow the grain or go with the flow. We don’t make music to sound like what’s already out there. If we did, then why would people want to hear us? We do us.
J: We are a very diverse group.. We do it all and that's what u will hear when you listen to our music. Never the SAME thing.
